Amherst Partners configures and includes the free Google Analytics script code in all websites that we develop. Google Analytics captures real-time information as visitors browse your website. Much more than just a simple visit counter, Google Analytics captures rich information about where a visitor is coming from, the browser and browser version being used, the pages visited, the time spent on each page, etc. There are literally hundreds of bits of information captured in the background by Google Analytics as visitors browse your website.
At Amherst Partners we believe that inclusion of the Google Analytics tool is a critical component of our overall philosophy of providing our clients more for less. Without asking, and without additional cost, each site we develop is configured with Google Analytics the day it goes live. We also configure our Amherst Partners' Google Webmaster Tools account to monitor each website we develop, but that's another article for another day.
From time to time Amherst Partners personnel will write a brief article on one, or more, of the features in Google Analytics that our clients have access to. We hope that these articles will be informative and useful. The first feature of Google Analytics that we want to highlight is the ability to benchmark your website against the other similar websites that Google Analytics knows about. Benchmarking is the comparing of data (or statistics) from one entity (your website) against a representative collection of data from a control group (other similar websites). This type of report should indicate whether your website is doing better, the same as, or worse, than the representative collection of websites. Benchmarking can be a useful tool in determining how your website is performing.
